The Not So Terrible Two's

Even before I joined the motherhood club I would hear about the dreaded "terrible twos" . It sounded like some alien came down and inhabited the bodies of these cute little humans and would turn them into food throwing , face slapping , tantrum monsters.

I mean it sounded awful why would anyone want to ever even think about having children. Then I did what I always said I wouldn't do( shocker don't we all ) I had a baby, who is now considered a toddler. Eek man did that fly by.

Ever since he turned 1 I've started to catch glimpses of this dreaded alien inhabitation called the "terrible twos". He's starting to form likes and dislikes, new emotions are starting to flood his little mind, and his personality is shinning through. With that comes exploring his boundaries which let's keep it real can really raise that frustration meter super quick am I right Mamas!?

Before these cute little squishy humans had simpler needs eat, sleep, poop, repeat. Sounds like the life right ? We carried them where we wanted whenever we wanted dressed them in whatever crazy baby ensemblewe so pleased.

All of a sudden our cute squishy babies are becoming little humans with autonomous emotions, thoughts, and ideas. So I propose something to all you Mamas who are in or approaching this "terrible twos" phase.

We as adults have a difficult time navigating and evoking our feelings, thoughts, and emotions to others. And let's keep it real we as "adults" throw adult tantrums when things don't go our way or we aren't feeling heard. I'll raise my hand been there done that folks .

So I made a promise to my little human that I would not look at this stage as the "terrible twos" but instead "the not so terrible twos". You heard me right , no I'm not crazy.

So in those incredibly tough days where he's testing my patience to the point where I may want to run away and never come back/ down one to maybe five glasses of wine, you've been there admit it; I would remind myself that he may be smaller then me but his feelings, wants, and opinions matter just as much as mine.

He's not a puppet that I can always control but my little human trying to navigate this thing called life, and he needs his Mamas help. I know what your thinking sounds easier said then done, and your right but it's like any other habit you just gotta keep working on it. Your little humans will thank you for it and so will your sanity.
